Many Truths?
Finding our path to God
The truth is rich and deep. It cannot be comprehended in full by any of us but it is singular in nature.
Truth is what is in accord with reality; truth fully and completely describes what is.
There can be countless lies about a particular subject, but there is only one truth about it. It may be a big truth, too big for any of us to master, but it is one truth nevertheless.
Truth has an essential simplicity and consistency.
It does not contain contradictions. In particular, the idea that something is true for you whereas the opposite is true for me violates what it means for something to be true.
We may need to listen hard to each other to understand more of the truth, but if we each have hold of something true, there won't be contradictions.
There is only one truth about who man is, about who God is, and about the nature of their relationship.
The truth about God and man has undoubtedly been discovered by people of different faiths.
In all of the world's great religions there have been individuals whose lives attest to their knowledge of God. They exhibit a steadfast love, peace, humility, and joy that can only come from knowing God.
The truth about God has never been discovered by anyone without faith.
Without faith we cannot see God. Without faith we don't even look for him.
Without faith, we can always find another explanation for the things God does in our lives, another explanation for life, for love, for beauty, for a sense of right and wrong.
When we humbly and diligently seek him, God himself teaches us the truth about himself and about ourselves.
He leads us to church where we will receive sustenance for our journey; he brings people and writings into our lives that teach us what we need to know; and he speaks words of love, encouragement, and truth to our hearts.
God takes our confusion and gives us his truth. It is always amazing in its simplicity, appropriateness, and compassion.
There is one truth because there is one God. If we earnestly seek for that one truth, we will find the one God. He has revealed himself to us. He is knowable.
